Tour of Italy Wine Dinner – March 15th 2018

An extremely fun and interesting exploration of Italian food and wine.  This unique experience will be held on Thursday evening, March 15th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

Menu

1st Course – Roasted Mussels and Clams with Asiago Risotto
Wine – Inama Soave Classico (Garganega), Veneto, Italy 

Some of the most enviable vineyards in the world – nestled in the hills outside Verona – grow the little known Garganega grape.  The aromatic and mouth-filling sensations found in this dry white wine are the exclusive characteristics of an old world wine.  Elegant aromas and flavors of wild flowers and stone fruit.  One of the finest examples of this varietal available.

 2nd Course – Fresh Ciauscolo Sausage, Poached Egg, Goat Rodeo Farm Raw Milk “Stampede” Chevre, Fresh Greens
Wine – Garofoli Sangiovese Monte Reale, Marche, Italy 

All the bright fruit and savory earthiness of the varietal are showcased in this 100% Sangiovese from one of the oldest estates in all of Italy.

 3rd Course – Lamb Ragout with Potato Tortelli
Wine – Aia Vecchia Lagone, Tuscany, Italy

From the distinguished Bolgheri coast along the Tyrrhenian Sea come this distinctive “Super-Tuscan” blend of Merlot, Cabernet, and Cabernet Franc.  Flavors of dark plums, cherries, and berries are enhanced by notes of dusty cocoa, sweet spices, fresh herbs, and silky tannins.  Exceptional, and intangibly Tuscan.

 4th Course – Pear Tart
Wine – Contadi Castaldi Franciacorta Brut, Lombardy, Italy

The best kept secret from northern Italy is made in an especially creamy and opulent style that sets it apart from champagne.  Very limited production and distribution (90% of all Franciacorta is consumed in the surrounding Swiss Alps), so it’s no wonder most Americans have never heard of this highly regarded sparkler.
